NETPark tenant Graphene Composites launches next-generation protective shield

NETPark-based Graphene Composites has announced the launch of its next-generation GC Patrol Shield, with testing verifying protection against specified rifle and shotgun threats just one inch from the shield’s edge.

Launched through the company’s GC Shield brand, the new model extends verified protection closer to the perimeter than the two-inch distance required by the NIJ and ASTM standards cited in the announcement.

For police officers using ballistic shields, performance near the edge is an important consideration. Impacts in this area present particular challenges because there is less surrounding material available to distribute the energy.

According to Graphene Composites, the latest shield underwent the full ASTM E3347 environmental conditioning process, including temperature shock, water immersion and preparation at high and low temperatures. Testing was conducted by an independent laboratory, with verification by the Safety Equipment Institute.

The new model retains the existing shield’s 20 lb weight, flat profile and ten-year warranty, and replaces it at the same price. A smaller, 10 lb Compact version carries the same stated rifle, shotgun and one-inch edge-shot verification.

The launch provides another example of a NETPark business applying advanced materials expertise to a practical safety challenge. Graphene Composites is part of the park’s community of companies developing technologies for defence, security and other specialist markets.

GC Shield will showcase the next-generation Patrol Shield and Compact Shield at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Orlando, Florida, from 24–27 October 2026.
