NETPark-based REPROCELL launches advanced human skin model for research and testing

NETPark tenant REPROCELL Europe has announced the commercial launch of REPROSKIN™, an advanced bioengineered human skin model designed to support drug discovery, dermatology research and product testing.
Developed using REPROCELL's proprietary Alvetex® scaffold technology, in collaboration with Durham University, REPROSKIN™ recreates key structural and biological features of human skin, providing researchers with a more realistic model for studying skin biology and evaluating new treatments.
The technology is now commercially available in two formats, giving researchers the flexibility to purchase living skin models for use in their own laboratories or access specialist testing through REPROCELL's contract research services.
Advancing human skin research
REPROSKIN™ uses human skin cells grown within a three-dimensional scaffold to create tissue that closely resembles the structure and properties of natural human skin.
The model has been developed to support a wide range of research applications, including skin disease, wound healing, pigmentation, ageing, drug development and the safety and effectiveness of cosmetics and personal care products.
By providing a more representative model of human skin, the technology aims to help researchers better understand how treatments and products interact with human tissue, supporting more informed decisions during early-stage research and development.
The new dual offering means organisations can carry out their own experiments using REPROSKIN™ or work directly with REPROCELL's scientists on customised testing programmes.
Building on research expertise at NETPark and Durham University
REPROCELL Europe, which has a base at NETPark's Plexus building in Sedgefield, specialises in advanced cell culture technologies, research products and contract research services supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology and academic organisations worldwide.
The launch builds on years of tissue engineering research and collaboration with Durham University, demonstrating how academic expertise can contribute to the development of commercially available technologies with international research applications.
Professor Stefan Przyborski, Chief Scientific Officer at REPROCELL Europe and Professor of Cell Technology at Durham University, said:
"REPROSKIN technology accurately reflects the anatomy and physiology of native human skin tissue, providing a robust and reproducible platform. Making it available as a product and a service will significantly benefit end users with interests in skin biology and skin care."
The development is another example of the specialist life sciences expertise represented at NETPark, where businesses are developing technologies to support advances in healthcare, diagnostics, drug discovery and biotechnology.
REPROSKIN™ is available now through REPROCELL Europe.
