NETPark-based Filtronic has secured its largest order from SpaceX to date, worth $68.1 million (£51.3 million).

The follow-on order covers the supply of Filtronic’s Cerus E-band gallium nitride (GaN) solid-state power amplifier units, which are used in high-frequency communications, including low Earth orbit satellite networks.

The new agreement follows a $62.5 million order announced in August 2025 and further strengthens the company’s strategic partnership with SpaceX.

Supporting the next generation of satellite communications

Filtronic designs and manufactures advanced radio frequency, microwave and millimetre-wave technology for the space, defence and telecommunications sectors.

Its proprietary GaN technology provides higher output power, greater efficiency and improved thermal performance compared with traditional gallium arsenide solutions. These advantages make it particularly suited to the demanding requirements of low Earth orbit satellite communications.

The order is expected to be largely fulfilled during Filtronic’s 2028 financial year, providing increased visibility over future revenues and supporting the company’s longer-term growth.

Nat Edington, Chief Executive Officer of Filtronic, described the agreement as another significant milestone for the business and further evidence of the growing importance of GaN technology in high-frequency communications.

Advanced communications technology at NETPark

Headquartered at NETPark in Sedgefield, Filtronic is part of a growing community of companies working across satellite communications, semiconductors, photonics, advanced electronics and space technology.

The company’s continued success demonstrates the international demand for specialist technology and manufacturing expertise based in North East England.

It also highlights NETPark’s role in providing the facilities, connections and environment needed by science and technology businesses as they develop new products, expand manufacturing and reach global markets.

Congratulations to the Filtronic team on another significant achievement.
