Filtronic strengthens access to India’s growing space and defence markets

NETPark-based Filtronic has taken another step in its international growth plans by forming a new relationship designed to expand its access to customers and programmes across India’s space and defence sectors.
The company has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Spur Microwave Inc, a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation. The agreement will combine Spur’s knowledge and relationships in India with the international reach of the wider Marubeni Group.
Filtronic has appointed Spur to provide an established route into the Indian market, supporting engagement with government, space and defence organisations.
Reaching new customers and programmes
India is investing significantly in its space and defence capabilities, creating growing demand for radio frequency, communications and sensing technologies.
The relationship will support Filtronic as it explores opportunities across satellite payloads, ground-segment infrastructure, communications networks and advanced sensing applications.
Spur’s existing presence and market knowledge will help Filtronic identify relevant customers and programmes while navigating India’s government, space and defence sectors.
Nat Edington, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Filtronic, said, “India is a strategically important growth market for Filtronic, with investment across the country’s space ecosystem continuing to accelerate. As we continue to expand our international footprint, it is essential that we work with partners that bring deep local expertise and trusted market relationships. Spur’s established presence, combined with the international scale and credibility of the wider Marubeni Group, provides a strong platform from which to bring Filtronic’s high-performance connectivity capabilities to new customers and programmes.”
Taking NETPark technology into international markets
Based at NETPark in Sedgefield, Filtronic designs and manufactures high-frequency technology for space, defence, telecommunications and other demanding applications.
Its capabilities include solid-state power amplifiers, transmit and receive modules, frequency converters, filters and digital radio frequency systems. These technologies support communications and sensing across ground, air and space.
The agreement provides another example of a NETPark company using its specialist expertise to pursue opportunities in major international markets.
NETPark supports science and technology businesses as they move from research and product development into manufacturing and commercial growth. Companies can access specialist facilities, connections with research organisations and a community working across space, defence, advanced electronics, photonics and related technologies.
Filtronic’s latest international partnership demonstrates the export potential of the technology being developed and manufactured at NETPark and the role North East companies can play in global supply chains.
