Innovate UK visit highlights Kromek’s journey from spin-out to international technology business

Kromek welcomed a team from Innovate UK, including Executive Chair Tom Adeyoola, to its headquarters at NETPark.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss Kromek’s development from a Durham University spin-out into an international business specialising in advanced imaging and radiation and biological-threat detection.
Kromek has delivered 15 Innovate UK-funded projects to date. During the visit, the company showcased three technologies at different stages of commercialisation, including its cadmium zinc telluride detector technology, which is now fully developed and commercially scaled.
The team also discussed Innovate UK’s new strategy and plans to provide more strategic, longer-term support for innovative businesses throughout their development.
Kromek shared insights from two decades of working with US agencies, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and how these relationships have helped shape its technology and expertise.
The visit demonstrated the important role collaboration and sustained innovation support can play in helping science and technology companies move from early research through to commercial growth.
