Kromek Group plc has further strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of Michael Stephenson as Commercial & Strategy Director for its Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) division to support the company’s ambitious plans for sustainable growth and global expansion.

Michael joins the NETPark-based technology firm following a 12-year career with global giant Johnson & Johnson, where he held a number of senior marketing, sales and product management roles. His experience includes developing commercial strategies, building high performance teams, and helping drive sales across international markets.

A former professional rugby player with more than 100 appearances in the Premiership, Michael began his sporting career at Newcastle Falcons before moving to Bath Rugby in 2005, where he played for five years before retiring from the game in 2013 to pursue a career in business.

Since transitioning into the corporate world, he has gained significant experience in the commercial healthcare sector and holds a master’s in business administration (MBA).

Michael’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Kromek, following the company’s  string of major contract wins with the UK Ministry of Defence, UK Home Office and the Merseyside Fire Department framework for the UK blue light requirements. In addition, the company also recently announced a $37.5 million agreement with Siemens Healthineers in its Advanced Imaging (AI) division. In his new role, Michael will focus on expanding Kromek’s CBRN detection business, a core area of strategic growth for the company.

Michael Stephenson said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Kromek at such a key time in the company’s growth journey.

“Working for an international organisation has provided me with the experience to position Kromek across markets worldwide and put together a cohesive commercial strategy that provides buyers with greater accessibility to Kromek’s high tech products in the CBRN markets.”

Dr Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek Group said: “We are delighted to welcome Michael to the senior team at such an important time for Kromek. His track record in developing high-performing commercial teams and executing growth strategies will be critical as we build out our commercial department to support the next phase of our expansion.

“As geopolitical tensions rise and the threat of CBRN incidents continue to grow globally, the need for advanced, reliable detection technology has never been more critical. Michael’s commercial expertise will play a key role in strengthening Kromek’s global position in this sector.”
