New apprenticeship service targets 1,500 additional opportunities across the North East

A planned North East apprenticeship service aims to help more young people into work and make it easier for employers to recruit, with advanced manufacturing among its initial priorities.
Expected to launch in April 2027, the scheme would support 1,500 additional apprenticeship starts by March 2029, attracting up to £10 million of government investment over three years. At least 375 opportunities would be aimed at young people outside education, employment or training.
Dedicated specialists and sector talent pools would connect unsuccessful applicants with other employers and training opportunities. The service would also help businesses prepare to recruit apprentices.
For NETPark’s science, technology and engineering community, the proposed focus on advanced manufacturing could help strengthen routes into technical careers and support businesses developing their future workforce.
