Filtronic, a leading innovator in high-performance RF technologies, and Red Scientific, a specialist in defence and security research, have officially joined the North East Regional Defence & Security Cluster (NERDSC).
Their membership reinforces a shared commitment to advancing sovereign technologies and strengthening the UK’s defence ecosystem from the North East.
Both companies are proud tenants of NETPark, County Durham’s premier science and technology park. Their involvement in NERDSC marks a strategic step in supporting national resilience and regional growth.
Filtronic, known for its mission-critical RF systems, brings decades of experience in defence, aerospace, and space. Speaking on the company’s decision to join NERDSC, Nat Edington, CEO of Filtronic, said:
“Joining NERDSC aligns perfectly with our strategic goals. We’re excited to collaborate with other members of the cluster to drive innovation, enhance national capability, and contribute to the North East’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced defence technologies.”
Red Scientific, which recently expanded into NETPark, is a trusted MOD supplier with expertise in digital wargaming, systems integration, and airborne equipment support. Marc Brûlé-Walker, Managing Director of Red Scientific and Chair of NERDSC, commented:
“NETPark offers the strategic environment sought by Red Scientific—combining technical infrastructure with the credibility to host high-level defence and security engagements. Having this base allows us to deliver professional engagement, invite collaboration and strengthen our role in the region.”
As part of NETPark’s thriving community of science and technology companies, the involvement of Filtronic and Red Scientific in NERDSC highlights the park’s role in supporting collaborative research and development that benefits both regional and national interests.
