A milestone moment unfolded at NETPark last week, as long-standing tenant Graphene Composites marked ten years of progress with an anniversary celebration bringing together investors, partners and collaborators.

The event reflected on a decade defined by focused ambition and technical advancement. Since its early days, Graphene Composites has moved from initial crowdfunding and a key partnership with CPI in 2016, to developing its first GC Shield prototype and filing its first patent application in 2017.

In 2020, the company responded to the global pandemic by pivoting its capabilities to develop GC Halo anti-pathogen air filters, demonstrating both agility and purpose. Since then, it has secured NIJ certifications and ASTM verification for its GC Shield technology, alongside gaining multiple patents across the UK, Europe and the United States.

Growth has extended beyond the laboratory. The business has launched products, expanded into the US market, and built partnerships in the UAE. It has also collaborated with the U.S. Army DEVCOM and strengthened its presence within key industry networks including North East Regional Defence and Security Cluster and MissionLink UK.

Looking ahead, the company’s momentum continues. Expansion of GC Labs is underway, GC Shield sales are increasing, trials for GC Thermo-Flo are in progress, and GC Halo is reaching further into Southeast Asia. The recent appointment of John Eatwell to the company’s network in 2025 also marks a significant addition to its strategic leadership.

The anniversary event also highlighted the strength of the ecosystem surrounding NETPark, with thanks extended to organisations including Department for Business and Trade, Business Durham, Alan Strickland and North East Chamber of Commerce.

As Graphene Composites enters its second decade, the focus remains clear: continued innovation, strategic growth, and collaboration within a thriving regional and international network.
