Funding Opportunity: Innovate UK Backs Scalable AI Innovation with £1.6M Investment

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, has announced a new funding opportunity aimed at accelerating the development of frontier AI technologies in the UK.
With a minimum investment of £1.6 million, this grant competition is designed to support proof of concept projects that demonstrate scalable, high-performance AI systems.
The initiative aligns with the UK’s strategic goals for AI sovereignty, economic growth, and global influence. Projects can focus on validating novel architectures or subsystem components, using simulation or synthetic data where full system delivery isn't feasible.
To be eligible, proposals must deliver one or more of the following:
Proof of concept for AI architecture or subsystem
Technical validation of system capabilities
Breakthrough performance in frontier AI
Scalable architecture and business model
Clear strategy for data access and compute infrastructure
This is a competitive process with limited funding, and while high-quality applications are encouraged, not all may be funded. Historically, similar competitions have seen a 25% success rate.
