Space North East England, the regional space cluster based at NETPark, has published its latest newsletter covering funding, partnerships and events for businesses working across the sector.
Space is a key sector at NETPark. The park is home to a growing number of companies working in areas including satellite communications, photonics, semiconductors, advanced materials, space surveillance and orbital sustainability.
Representing the North East at Farnborough
The latest update looks back at Farnborough International Airshow, where Space North East England represented the region from the Lockheed Martin Space Zone.
The event provided an opportunity to promote the businesses, universities, facilities and technical expertise found across the North East to national and international audiences.
Farnborough also saw the announcement of a new agreement between the UK Government and Space Florida. The partnership is intended to help companies and researchers build international relationships and move new space technologies towards commercial use.
New funding for UK space technologies
The newsletter highlights more than £62 million in government funding for home-grown space technologies, supporting the development of UK capability and resilience.
Current opportunities include:
Space Clusters Infrastructure Fund Call 2, supporting research and development facilities across the UK
National Space Innovation Programme Call 3, with up to £20 million available for UK projects
ESA’s Earth Observation InCubed programme, supporting the commercial development of Earth observation products and services
These opportunities may be relevant to NETPark companies already working within the space sector, as well as businesses considering how their technology could be applied to space markets.
Events and opportunities to connect
The update also covers the latest Space Cascade & Network, which brings regional businesses and organisations together to share news and make connections.
Other upcoming events include the UK Earth Observation Conference, CyberFest North and Space Tech Expo Europe, where Space North East England will exhibit alongside a North East delegation.
The range of activity reflects the growing role of the North East within the UK space sector and the opportunities available to businesses based at NETPark.
