Telecoms tech firm Filtronic has secured a £3.2m contract to design a "next generation" space communication systems for the European Space Agency.
The County Durham-based firm said the work will see it create a system that can deliver broadband between low Earth orbit satellites to receiving ground stations.
In an update to investors, Filtronic revealed how the contract is part of the Advanced Research and Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) programme for "space deployment of 5G/6G and sustainable connectivity".
