North East LEP appoints three new board members

The body tasked with developing the North East’s economy has announced three new appointments to its board.

PR agency boss John McCabe and TSG Marine operations director Erika Leadbeater have joined the board of the North East LEP to replace outgoing board members David Land and Farooq Hakim. In addition, Carol Botten, chief executive of Voluntary Organisations’ Network North East (VONNE) has joined the board to ensure the region’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector is better represented.

Mr McCabe is the chair of Gateshead College and immediate past president of North East England Chamber of Commerce. He has held senior positions at a number of the North East’s largest organisations and launched strategic communications agency, Fusion, in 2013. Last year he stood as an independent candidate in the North of Tyne mayoral election.

Ms Leadbeater began her career as a private practice solicitor specialising in shipping and the carriage of goods before joining TSG Marine in 2013. She is an advocate for small businesses and a member of the UK Government’s SME Advisory Board.
