NETPark Life is a regular feature providing insight into the types of people and businesses you’ll find at NETPark, as well as what it’s like to work here in Sedgefield, County Durham from the people who know it best!
In this feature, we ask Wootzano’s Electronic Embedded Engineer, Thierry Joseph Valery Garcia about his NETPark Life.
1. How long have you worked at Wootzano and what is a typical day like?
21 months at Wootzano Ltd. My typical day is to resolve the daily issues that happen when a robot needs to be created, I spend most of my time at the computer designing new electronic circuits, then soldering it and programming microcontrollers. Sometimes trying to solve a bug or trying to improve an existing design.
2. What do you like most about your job?
Everything. It’s not a job where I am not subject to loud noises, extreme temperatures, nor having to clean dirty smelly drains, no toxic and hazardous chemicals, heights, heavy lifting, or other dangerous activities, nor deal with angry customers, and all my co-workers have a minimum of school culture and knowledge, so I don’t feel alone.
It is also a job that challenges my mind and creativity, I spend my time turning something into reality, where I have all the tools I need on hand to go as far as my creativity allows me.
3. What is the best thing about working at NETPark?
I like having all the tools and space we need to get our projects going, like 3D printers, spin coaters, sputtering machines and more. I like that NETPark is near a few quiet villages good to live in, and NETPark itself has nice green areas where is nice to walk for a break during lunchtime.
I live in Fishburn, it is only 25 minutes away on foot. It is a small village and has everything I need. If you like living in a rural area, then NETPark is the perfect place to work. If you like to live in a city, Durham and Stockton are not too far, there are frequent bus routes from NETPark to either city.
I work in the Explorer 2 building, which has tall and wide windows to the outdoors allowing plenty of daylight in and lift my mood, especially in winter.
4. What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I create video games and I’m also a photographer. I enjoy exploring around on my bike into the rural areas.
