This week we asked Kromek’s recently appointed Chief Financial Officer Paul Farquhar out NETPark Life questions.
- How long have you worked at Kromek Group Plc and what is a typical day like?
I joined Kromek at the end of October last year, so 5 months. There is no typical day as each day is so different. However, a normal day for me is being on-site at Kromek’s offices on NETPark from around 8am to 6pm. The day typically includes a range of meetings with internal and external stakeholders and investors as we are an AIM listed business, together with the wide variety of responsibilities associated with being a CFO/Finance Director in an SME business.
- What do you like most about your job?
The variety and challenge that goes with being part of a growing and ambitious technology company and in particular a business that has proud North-East roots as a spin-out from Durham University.
- What is the best thing about working at NETPark?
For me it is an easy commute from where I live in Washington, but more importantly I enjoy being part of a like-minded hub of science, technology and engineering organisations all flying the flag for North-East enterprise and innovation.
- What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
Spending time socialising with family and friends, traveling and being a long-suffering supporter of Newcastle United!

CPI has developed a specialist offering to support SMEs looking to develop their printable electronics applications and our partnership with Business Durham has been instrumental in attracting several SMEs to locate here in the region.
The proximity to the universities and the infrastructure are very important factors. Ultimately having a presence in Europe is very valuable to us and we intend to stay at NETPark for many years to come.
We initially came because of the printable electronics centre but access to a highly skilled semi conductor workforce in the North East has been a key factor in us staying and growing here, as well as the value for money office space and the access to funding.
The quality of the facilities at NETPark and the attitude of staff is first class. It has a really dynamic, innovative atmosphere.
Access to quality facilities was one of the main drivers for deciding to locate the business at the NETPark. We have been able to use this as a launch pad to link into support from CPI and world-class expertise from Durham University.
