Kromek receives Queen’s Award for International Trade
NETPark based Kromek are delighted to announce they have received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its outstanding contribution to International Trade.
The Queen’s Awards are the most prestigious awards for UK business, designed to recognise and encourage achievements in the fields of Innovation, International Trade, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).
Kromek has been recognised in the International Trade category for its outstanding growth in overseas sales. In the three years to 30 April 2019, Kromek’s non-UK sales grew by 52% to make up 84% of all sales. From its headquarters in Sedgefield, County Durham, Kromek exports its radiation detection technologies and products around the globe to over 40 countries in Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia.
Dr Arnab Basu, CEO of Kromek, said: “It is an honour to receive this prestigious award following a period of significant international growth for Kromek. We have secured contracts worth millions of pounds through our deepened relationships with governments and companies worldwide. CPI has developed a specialist offering to support SMEs looking to develop their printable electronics applications and our partnership with Business Durham has been instrumental in attracting several SMEs to locate here in the region.
The quality of the facilities at NETPark and the attitude of staff is first class. It has a really dynamic, innovative atmosphere.
Access to quality facilities was one of the main drivers for deciding to locate the business at the NETPark. We have been able to use this as a launch pad to link into support from CPI and world-class expertise from Durham University.
We initially came because of the printable electronics centre but access to a highly skilled semi conductor workforce in the North East has been a key factor in us staying and growing here, as well as the value for money office space and the access to funding.
The proximity to the universities and the infrastructure are very important factors. Ultimately having a presence in Europe is very valuable to us and we intend to stay at NETPark for many years to come.
