PragmatIC is a world leader in ultra-low-cost flexible electronics. Our flexible integrated circuits (FlexICs) are thinner than a human hair and can be invisibly embedded in objects, enabling innovators to create novel solutions to everyday problems that are not practical with conventional electronics. Designers can create their own application-specific flexible devices using our FlexIC Foundry™ service at a fraction of the cost and time required for traditional silicon circuits, opening up multiple new markets. PragmatIC also offer standard FlexIC products: our ConnectIC® family extends proven applications such as RFID and NFC into mass market use cases, enabling the potential for trillions of smart objects that can engage with consumers and their environments. All FlexICs are manufactured on our revolutionary FlexLogIC® production system, a highly scalable manufacturing model for cost-effective high-volume production, achieved with orders of magnitude lower capital investment and operating cost compared to a traditional silicon IC fab.
Our novel, differentiated technology is being adopted by a growing base of global companies across diverse markets, including consumer goods, retail, healthcare, pharmaceutical, gaming and security. PragmatIC is headquartered in Cambridge, UK, with our first billion-unit production facility at NETPark in Sedgefield, County Durham. We initially came because of the printable electronics centre but access to a highly skilled semi conductor workforce in the North East has been a key factor in us staying and growing here, as well as the value for money office space and the access to funding.
The proximity to the universities and the infrastructure are very important factors. Ultimately having a presence in Europe is very valuable to us and we intend to stay at NETPark for many years to come.
Access to quality facilities was one of the main drivers for deciding to locate the business at the NETPark. We have been able to use this as a launch pad to link into support from CPI and world-class expertise from Durham University.
CPI has developed a specialist offering to support SMEs looking to develop their printable electronics applications and our partnership with Business Durham has been instrumental in attracting several SMEs to locate here in the region.
