Community Engagement

NETPark is a flagship location for the future economy of County Durham and the North East.  County Durham Development Company (CDDC) works closely with partners, especially Durham University, to ensure that NETPark’s community is engaged, enthused and inspired by the technologies being developed on their doorstep.
Programmes for schools include:

• "Recharging the Earth" which encourages secondary and primary school children to make sustainable technology choices and understand the longer term impact of these choices
• A science and technology Business Planning competition for schools and colleges
• A junior incubation programme for new ideas
• Working with local support groups and organisations to promote careers in science, engineering, technology and mathematics.
• The Brainwave Events - A summer science event which has been held at NETPark since 2010.

Working with Durham University, we also hold a programme of school, college and community organisations visits to NETPark.   The NETPark Outreach team also visit community centres and other venues to support people who want to learn more about some of the exciting  developments and breakthroughs taking place at NETPark

NETPark, NETPark Net and Project C are part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government, securing £5.71M ERDF investment. The ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-2013 is bringing over £300m into the North East to support innovation, enterprise and business support across the region.  All projects have also received funding from Durham County Council.
